maria's anatomy private residence, new york city, usa october 2005
lara and ann have occasional salons, where they invite people to come and share their art. lara's father put a fantastic sliding frosted-glass door in the apartment when he built it. i visited them shortly before their october salon in order to see about projecting something through the glass doors, wondering what it would look like, and what piece to show.
they had been given some art, and were trying to figure out what to do with it - a few paintings and many drawings, mostly anatomical drawings of the sort one makes when studying figurative art. i decided to take some pictures and shoot some video of the drawings and use them as the basis for a new piece.
after digitally manipulating the images, i animated them, and made four interdependent channels of video which was then projected onto translucent plastic through the doors.
